Toolkit Item: Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant


The Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA) is an excellent tool to resolve Outlook and other Office 365 issues. Quoting from its official download page, here’s a description:

The Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant works by running tests to figure out what’s wrong and offers the best solution for the identified problem. It can currently fix Office, Office 365, or Outlook problems. If the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant can’t fix a problem for you, it will suggest next steps and help you get in touch with Microsoft support.

To do its thing, SaRA needs to be installed on affected devices. The user interface is simple, just select an item and answer follow-up questions to get started. In the following screenshot I have selected Outlook, and was taken to a page asking more precisely about my issue:

Apparently, wider support for Windows issues is coming to SaRA, too, but at the moment selecting Windows only lets one select activation and upgrade/update issues:

The download is a ZIP archive (remember to unblock before extracting!). Having had my share of all kind of weird account and other issues with Office 365 E3 subscription, SaRA is now a permanent and valuable addition to my toolkit. I sincerely recommend that you install it, especially if you are an O365 / MS365 admin.
